How do I join the snowriders club?
Snowriders is a student-run group for MIT students, and any currently enrolled MIT student can become a member by joing our email list. Currently, however, we also serve other members of the MIT community, and we will only continue to do so if our resources allow us to.
I've never skiied or snowboarded before. Can I still join?
Yes! All ability levels are welcome. We are not elite or competitive and would love to help you out.
how do i add myself to the snowriders mailing list?
you are automatically added when you create an account on the snowriders website, but you may add yourself to the list manually by using the mailman web interface to add yourself to the snowriders list
How do I create an account on the Snowriders website?
Account creation is automatic when you click the login link and present an MIT certificate to the web server.
are there other skiing/boarding resources available at MIT?
The MIT Outing Club is also active in winter sports. MITOC members enjoy non-lift served backcountry skiing and riding, as well as cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and even sledding. There is a group of backcountry skiers on the mitoc-bcski mailing list that is active into June on good snow years. All forms of non-motorized backcountry travel are welcome. Many of the members of MITOC's skiing community are also members of Snowriders. There is a very active telemark skiing community within MITOC.
MITOC rents cross country skis, boots and poles from their office on campus at very affordable rates. There are also a number of backcountry touring-oriented skis available for rent (shaped metal edges, NNN-BC bindings), although these are not suitable for lift- served skiing. Many other winter-related items are also available. MITOC rentals can be used in the Boston area or taken with you on your travels. MITOC runs several organized cross country and backcountry skiing trips every January as part of its annual Winter School program. More information can be found on the MITOC website.
